This seems to be all over the place right now, but after spending months looking for a home, this video about the real estate market in America hits way too close to home for my wife and I. If you can afford to wait for a house, you should. It’s insanity out there!
Wednesday afternoon, I visited the dentist to get fillings, and they had a TV over my chair. I got to watch the Capitol fall to fascists while they drilled into my teeth.
A little pain now saves you from great pain later - or so I hope. Both for my teeth, and for America. 🤞
The Stylus browser extension: When you’re so impatient that instead of waiting for the developer to add a dark mode feature, you write some CSS and hack it together yourself 😁
In the same spirit as “Dress for the job you want, not the one you have,” I listen to internet radio stations from where I want to live, not where I live now. Which is why tonight is a “rock station from Ontario” kind of night.
I did something today that felt much stranger than it usually does: I went outside! When the sun was shining!
COVID + working remotely to begin with + shortest days of the year = haven’t seen the sun in ages 🌞
We’ve started doing house hunting, and occasionally I find myself wishing I had oodles of dollars, and could build a house exactly how we like it, right down to fancy doorknobs. Basically, I read A House By The Park 10 years ago and I still can’t get it out of my head.
I’m super happy for him! 🏳️🌈 The Washington Post: Elliot Page comes out as transgender
I never really did celebrity crushes, but I’d told friends that they were the one I was most into - 8 years ago. Now we’ve both accepted ourselves as transgender. Hmmmmmm… 🤔
All but a handful of my friends and family are buying into voter fraud claims, or believe COVID is overblown, or rage about pronouns.
I feel great trepidation for the future that Biden’s slim victory did little to relieve 😔
I love spending time browsing places like Apartment Therapy as well as Reddit’s /r/femalelivingspace and /r/battlestations, to come up with ways to make my office more awesome.
Perhaps I should try using said office to actually do useful things? …nah, that would be crazy.
I never owned an 11-inch Macbook Air, but adding a Brydge keyboard to my Surface Go has been a bit of a revelation, and I imagine this is how people who had one of those felt. Turns out that tiny, go-anywhere laptops are really cool! 💻
Microsoft has definitely gotten a lot stronger at UI design over the years, but their past is super sketchy. The latest reminder of that: when starting on Windows XP, they made a very half-baked clone of OS X’s Aqua theme. Yikes.
I could write a bunch about my journey towards realizing I’m transgender, but the artist of the 20-years-running Real Life Comics webcomic has a much more entertaining take of her own realization. So much of it rings true to my own experience.
Adobe’s created a clever feature for making PDF’s readable on phones. But why isn’t there a portable file format that supports responsive layouts out of the box?
I was thinking that my blog here would look a lot like a link blog or tumblelog, but URL’s being included in the character count makes that tricky. If the URL is long enough, you can’t get more than a sentence in about what you think of it.
Hi! I’m Courtney, and I’m going to be blogging about my life. What might make this… interesting… is that I’ve accepted recently that I’m a transgender woman, and I haven’t been going by Courtney for very long. I’m planning on writing here about my path to being happier and more comfortable with myself.
But most of the time, that’s something I try not to obsess about! You’ll probably see me more than anything else blogging about technology. I’m a web developer, and new events in that world are exciting to me. I also love gadgets and apps that make my life working and relaxing more fun. You might also see the occasional post about my family, video games, or (if I’m in a bad mood) politics.
I can’t wait to share more with you!
